Today In R.E, we we're discussing about the definition of prayer.

5 Finger Prayer

 I pray for our family and friends and those who are having difficulties at this time, I hope they will be guided by the holy spirit and share our blessings.

I pray for our teachers at St Patrick, I hope that they continue to support us in our learning and keep up with preparing us year 8's for college.

I pray for our leaders around the world, I hope they serve as good leaders to nations around the world, especially at this time during this pandemic and protests that are occuring .

I pray for those who are ill & the poor, I hope they get cured immediately and bless those people who cannot afford their everyday needs.

I pray for myself, help me focus during school, help me choose right decisions in life and I hope I can enjoy life and be happy everyday.

Euphrasie Barbier

The Sacred Place

We have a new place that has been constructed in the corner of the school called the sacred place.

The sacred space is where we can pray or reflect, there are also 3 stones that has symbols on them which represent St Patrick’s School and the congregation of the Mission sisters of Our Lady Of The Missions which had been founded by Adele Euphrasie Barbier.

The first stone symbolizes the Mission sisters who was founded by Adele Euphrasie Barbier in 1861, the mission sisters took over the school in 1904. The second stone symbolizes a koru, a spiral shape that symbolize new life, growth, strength and peace. The last stone symbolizes the school’s symbol that represent our faith,  the school symbolize fidelis which means “always faithful” .

This was presented by St Patrick’s school and the Our Lady Of The Missions congregation, it was also constructed by Sr Geraldine Donovan, a former student and teacher from St Patrick’s school. 

🙏🙏 Euphrasie Barbier 🙏🙏

Ade'le Euphrasie Barbier was the founder of Our Lady Of The Missions or short for The Mission Sisters.

On the 4th of January 1829 in Caen, France, Euphrasie Barbier was born. At the age of 13, she worked in a Laundry and she opened her on laundry business when she was 17.

Of her hard work and honesty, she had a strong faith to Catholic religion. When she was a young adult she was inspired by a bishop preaching during his missions to be a foreign missionary.

In 1848, following her missionary dream, she entered a missionary organisation known as the Sisters Of Calvary which was located in Cuves. She was sent to go on a mission to London. This was her first missionary trip 

In the 1550's, she realised her dream to be a foreign missionary was not going to happen if she stayed in the Sisters Of Calvary.

As her passion was to be a foreign missionary, she left the Sisters of Calvary and came back to France with the possibility of working with the Marist Fathers in their mission in Oceania to continue her dream.

December 1861, she founded a new organisation called Institute de Notre Dame Des in Lyon. In late October 1864 foreign missionaries and all french people left France to New Zealand including Euphrasie Barbier.

It wasn't easy for Euphrasie, the organisation in New Zealand had a lot of difficulties so they allowed to build new foundations.

She went to expensive trips to communities she had built around the world such as France, England, The Pacific Islands, Asia and New Zealand.

To the wonderful life she had, she helped a lot of people mostly marginalised people before her death in 1893.

She was a very independent women with a humble heart.

To be like Euphrasie Barbier, be kind to everyone and be humble. Stand up for yourself and others to be independent and brave.

How can we use Advent to open ourselves and let Jesus become a

bigger part of our lives?

What is Advent?

Advent is a time of year to prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ,
the Son Of God. This celebration occurs  yearly, but can be celebrated

by two kinds of people, christians and non-christians. Advent is a time
to open our hearts and change our attitudes. The word Advent means “coming” in Latin. There are 4 candles, symbolizing Advent.

Each one represents one of the four Sundays in Advent.

Three of the candles are the colour violet, leaving the remaining

candle the colour rose.

Thinking about our attitudes, we can recognise what needs to be

changed so that we can have a strong relationship with God, we
could also be more loving and caring to each other. Appreciating

the season of Advent as a gift to be used to make a straight path

and to  follow Jesus’ footsteps, by learning more about Him.

Changing our attitudes can change our lives and we could be

a more better person. Changing our attitudes can also change the lives of others.
